Ballet and Pointe Levels

 

Ballet Open Division (Ages 12 years old and up)

(Designed for students that are new to ballet or have only 1-2 years of experience)

Wednesday 6:45pm-7:45pm (Joe)

Advanced Ballet Open Division (Ages 12 years old and up)

(Designed for ages 12 years old and up with 3 or more years experience)

Monday 7:00pm-8:15pm (Karen)

Pointe Open Division

(Must be recommended for this class)

Monday 8:15pm-8:45pm (Karen)

Ballet Dress Code:

Girls Dress Code- black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers or skin tone tights and skin tone ballet slippers, and hair in a bun.

Boys Dress Code- white t-Shirt, black shorts or black tights, and black ballet slippers.

Ballet Showcase Note-Each ballet class in our Open Division will perform one routine in two of the shows in our annual Showcase.

contemporary levels

Contemporary is a blend of ballet, jazz, lyrical, and modern dance techniques. This class is a great introduction into the skills and technique needed to perform this popular style of dance. 

 

Contemporary Open Division (Ages 12+)

Monday 6:00pm-7:00pm (Abigail)

Contemporary Dress Code:

Girls Dress Code – any color leotard, jazz shorts or leggings, bare feet, and hair in a ponytail or bun.

Boys Dress Code- any color plain t-shirt or tank top, black dance pants or shorts, and bare feet.

Showcase Note-Each Contemporary class will perform one routine in two of the shows in our annual Showcase.

jazz levels

Central Virginia Dance Academy offers a fun and technique based jazz class. This high-energy class includes a warm up with isolations, flexibility, and strength building. Center work and across the floor will include jazz skills, leaps, and turns.  Students will also enjoy using these new jazz steps in original jazz choreography. Using contemporary music, this class is a combination of classical jazz technique and funk. 

 

Jazz Open Division(12 years old and up)

Wednesday 7:45pm-8:45pm (Sade)

Broadway Jazz(13+) / Musical Theatre(Ages 8-12)

Musical Theater class will help bring out the personality in a dancer’s performance skills. The focus will be on developing characterization of a dancer, understanding the story behind a dance, building self-confidence on stage, as well as performance skills tailored to Broadway styles. 

Wednesday 4:30pm-5:30pm Ages 8-12 (Abigail)

Saturday 2:30pm-3:30pm Ages 13 and up (Brandee)

Broadway Jazz Dress Code:

Girls Dress Code- any color leotard, tights, jazz shorts or leggings, tan jazz shoes (ages 7-12 years old), black character shoes not available on the online store, but can purchase at Ellman’s Dancewear (ages 13 years old and up), and hair in ponytail or bun. 

Boys Dress Code- any color plain t-shirt or tank top, black dance pants or shorts, and black jazz shoes.

Showcase Note-Each Broadway Jazz class will perform one routine in two of the shows in our annual Showcase.

hip hop levels

Central Virginia Dance Academy offers a high-energy hip-hop class that includes current dance trends. This upbeat dance class includes a warm-up, original choreography, and a breakdown of today’s most popular hip-hop steps.

modern levels

Modern is a free and expressive style of dance. This technique often includes but is not limited to the use of parallel, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation.

 

Modern 4/5 (Ages 11 years old and up)

Friday 6:15pm-7:15pm (RJ)

Modern Dress Code:

Girls Dress Code- Any color leotard, tights, bare feet, and hair in a ponytail or bun.

Boys Dress Code- athletic shorts, white t-shirt preferred, and bare feet.
